The City of Calgary is developing a master plan for the area and is seeking public feedback before proceeding. While construction is not expected to begin until 2029, the project represents one of the largest transit-oriented redevelopment opportunities in the city's Southwest.
WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED?
The City is exploring a mixed-use redevelopment of the land surrounding Westbrook Station that could include:
1. Non-market housing,
2. Public parks and open spaces,
3. Retail plazas,
4. Mid and high-rise buildings,
5. Improvements to the surrounding street and pedestrian connections.
WHAT DO THE PEOPLE THINK?
Despite the strategic location in Glenbrook and proximity to downtown, much of the land surrounding the Westbrook Station has remained vacant since it opened in 2012.
Many residents and community members have expressed excitement about finally seeing progress on the site, trusting that a meaningful development is better than the land remaining unused.
However, many people appear interested in learning more about what the final project could look like. Some of the common questions include:
1. How much density would be proposed?
2. What will the public park and open spaces look like?
3. How will traffic, parking and pedestrian access be addressed?
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The City is currently collecting feedback from residents and community members until July 3. Once public consultation is complete, City Administration will refine the master plan and develop a vision for the site. The plan is projected to be ready for public hearing in Fall 2026. If approved, construction for the site will begin in 2029.
